Our Ministries

As a young, small congregation, we are growing our ministries. We are always open to adding new ministries, so if you have an idea for something, please let Pastor Ceri know and she will help you to implement your idea.  We believe that all Christians are ministers in the Priesthood of All Believers (1 Peter 2:4-10). In light of this, we also believe that Pastor Ceri does not have to lead every ministry -- God will put in place and raise up others who can do so just as well as she can. And He will equip those He calls to those positions.

We are currently looking for someone to lead our Kids' Ministry. In the meantime, we will be providing an Intergenerational Sunday School time before worship on Sunday mornings. This will allow all generations to learn from each other as we explore various Biblical concepts and stories.

While not technically a ministry at GTD, Pastor Ceri does meet with prospective brides and grooms to talk about various issues surrounding the wedding and married life. This involves an interview with the happy couple and touches on all aspects of married life.

Seniors are a very important part of our family at GTD. Not only are many of our members seniors, but Pastor Ceri also brings the Love of Jesus to those who are in assisted living at Freedom Plaza (91st Avenue & Thunderbird). Twice a month, she takes the Word and Communion to those who are unable to attend worship services elsewhere.

Homeless Kids Ministry

Homelessness is an issue that is not going away any time soon. Adults who live on the street are one segment of the homeless population that we believe needs to be served. However, there are students in schools who qualify as homeless under the McKinney Vento Act. This Act allows for assistance to be given to students in school through a homeless liaison. We are privileged to be partnering with Nadaburg Unified School District to assist with their homeless student population. We will work with them to fulfill clothing and other needs as they arise for these children.  Your help would be most appreciated -- you can donate to GTD and earmark your funds for these wonderful children.

Hope 4 Kids

Water 4 Kids

A couple of years ago, our good friends Brian and Peggy O’Rourke introduced us to Water 4 Kids International. Water 4 Kids drills wells in Uganda, India, and the Philippines. Brian and Peggy have been instrumental in raising awareness and money for the wells being drilled in Uganda. Each year, they spear head a Walk for Water in Cave Creek which helps raise money, but also the awareness of how far children need to walk for water in Uganda – water that is unclean and full of disease. Deep water wells help bring life-giving water to those in villages in Uganda and the other countries Water 4 Kids helps. When you consider that 26% of the day for an average African child is spent collecting water and that the water they are collecting is not clean, it boggles the mind – and the heart. According to Water 4 Kids’ website, “lack of safe water is responsible for up to 75% of deaths in remote villages.”  It is for this reason that we help to support Water 4 Kids – no child (or person for that matter) should have to drink water that can lead to death or disease.  The website for Water 4 Kids International is:  http://www.w4ki.org/

Sister to Water for Kids is Hope 4 Kids International. For over 40 years, they have been committed to serving children living in impoverished environments around the world by establishing economic, spiritual, water, orphan, and feeding programs. This organization has as its foundation James 1:27: “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” (ESV) Using the Four Pillars of Hope, Dignity, Health, Joy, and Love, Hope 4 Kids seeks to exemplify the spirit of Jesus to show that all children are worthy of a prosperous life and bright future. In addition, they also have child sponsorship opportunities around the world. Brian and Peggy sponsor multiple children and now Pastor Ceri and Greg sponsor a young girl from Uganda. Sponsorship provides them with the opportunity not only to provide support to their sponsored child and her family, but to also buy “girlie” things in light of the fact that they don’t have any grandgirls. 😊 The website for Hope 4 Kids International is: http://www.hope4kidsinternational.org

Prayer Ministry

Sometimes in life, things can get tough for us or for those we love -- or just in general. We are called to pray for each other and, yes, even for ourselves. If you have a prayer request, please let us know so we can pray for and with you. Prayers can be for just about anything -- healing, strength, patience, even celebration.  But we believe that the more prayers the better! We would also ask for prayers for Grace in the Desert and for Pastor Ceri.

Kids in Church

Cursillo is a para-church organization that provides people with the opportunity to attend a three-day weekend. Pastor Ceri describes this experience as "total immersion in the grace and love of God." For many it is life-changing. Once you have experienced the Cursillo weekend, you have the opportunity to serve on team -- to help others to experience the same grace and love and servant hearts that were experienced on your own weekend.  Check it out at https://lutherancursillo.org/index.htm
